One of the main objections, I hear against celebrating the Passover at the beginning of the 14th is: “Since Messiah ate leavened bread at the last supper, therefore the evening preceding his death (evening of the 14th) could not have been the Passover!” At first glance this seem like a very strong argument, because the Scriptures clearly states that the Passover lamb is to be eaten with unleavened bread: “And they shall eat the flesh that night, roasted in fire, with unleavened bread, and they shall eat it with bitter herbs.” ~Exodus 12:8 Also in John 13:18 we read: “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture might be filled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.” What’s interesting about John 13:18 is that יהושע is quoting a prophecy from Psalm 41:9: “Even my own friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.” The Hebrew word used for bread in Psalm 41:9 is lechem Strong’s #H3899לחם, which can point to leavened bread, however lechem is also used for “showbread”, which is believed to be unleavened bread. Although we could go back and forth on the bread issue… Once we understand the “timing” of the events in question… we’ll realize “what is done with the bread” may be more important than the “type of bread” (leavened or unleavened). Was John 13:1-32 the Last Supper/Passover? Let’s Go to the Scripture and take a closer look: “And BEFORE the Festival of the Passover, יהושע knowing that His hour had come that He should move out of this world unto the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And suppertaking place, the devil having already put it into the heart of Yahudah (Judas) from Qerioth, son of Shimon, to deliver Him up, יהושע, knowing that the Father had given all into His hands, and that He had come from Elohim and was going to Elohim, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, and having taken a towel, He girded Himself. ~John 13:1-4 Did you notice the word BEFORE? The events in John 13:1-32 happen BEFORE PASSOVER! Let’s Continue… “After that He put water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the taught ones, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.” ~John 13:5 “יהושע said to him (Peter), “He who has had a bath does not need to wash, except his feet, but is clean altogether. And you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would deliver Him up, so He said, “You are not all clean.” ~John 13:10, 11 “When יהושע had said this He was troubled in spirit, and witnessed and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you shall deliver Me up.” The taught ones looked at one another, doubting of whom He spoke. And one of His taught ones, whom יהושע loved, was reclining on the bosom of יהושע. Shimon Kepha (Peter) then motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. And leaning back on the breast of יהושע he said to Him, “Master, who is it?” ~John 13:21-25 PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! “יהושע answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Yahudah (Judas) from Qerioth, son of Shimon. And after the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. יהושע, therefore, said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” ~John 13:26, 27 NOTICE: Taught ones doubting who it could be that delivers up יהושע John reclining on the bosom of יהושע Kepha motions to John (the disciple whom יהושע loved) to ask who it was יהושע tells John, the one I give bread to after dipping it יהושע dips bread יהושע gave bread to Yahudah After the bread, Satan entered into Yahudah Okay Let’s Continue “What you do, do quickly.” “But no one at the table knew why He said this to him, for some were supposing, because Yahudah had the bag, that יהושע was saying to him, “Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give somewhat to the poor. ~John 13:27b-29 Again the PASSOVER had not STARTED YET! “having received the piece of bread, he (Yahudah) then WENT OUT straightaway, and it was night. When, therefore, he WENT OUT, יהושע said, “Now the Son of Adam has been esteemed, and Elohim has been esteemed in Him.“If Elohim has been esteemed in Him, Elohim shall also esteem Him in Himself, and straightaway esteem Him. ~John 13:30, 32 Stay with me THERE IS GOLD HERE… Comparing John Account with Matthew, Mark, and Luke (See if you notice any differences) MATTHEW “And on the first day of Unleavened Bread the taught ones came to יהושע, saying to Him, “Where do You wish us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?” And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I am to observe the Passover at your house with My taught ones.” And the taught ones did as יהושע had ordered them, and prepared the Passover. And when evening came, He sat down with the twelve. And while they were eating, He said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you shall deliver Me up.” And they were deeply grieved, and began to say to Him, each of them, “Master, is it I?” And He answering, said, “He who has dipped his hand with Me in the dish, he shall deliver Me up. “Indeed, the Son of Man goes as it has been written concerning Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” And Yahudah – he who delivered Him up – answering, said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.” ~Matthew 26:17-25 MARK “And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they were slaughtering the Passover lamb, His taught ones said to Him, “Where do You wish us to go and prepare, for You to eat the Passover?” And He sent out two of His taught ones and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man bearing a jar of water shall meet you, follow him. “And wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in whichI am to eat the Passover with My taught ones?” ’ “And he shall show you a large upper room, furnished, ready. Prepare for us there.” And His taught ones went out and came into the city, and found it as He said to them, and they prepared the Passover. And evening having come, He came with the twelve. And as they sat and ate, יהושע said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you who is eating with Me shall deliver Me up.” And they began to be grieved, and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” And another, “Is it I?” And He answering, said to them, “It is one of the twelve, he who is dipping with Me in the dish. “The Son of Man is indeed going, as it has been written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” ~Mark 14:16-21 LUKE “And the Day of Unleavened Bread came when the Passover had to be slaughtered. And He sent Kepha and Yohanan, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat.” And they said to Him, “Where do You wish us to prepare?” And He said to them, “See, as you enter into the city, a man shall meet you carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house he enters. “And you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I might eat the Passover with My taught ones?” ’ “And he shall show you a large, furnished upper room. Prepare it there.” And going they found it as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover. And when the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve emissaries with Him. And He said to them, “With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before My suffering, for I say to you, I shall certainly not eat of it again until it is filled in the reign of Elohim.” … “But see, the hand of him delivering Me up is with Me on the table. “For indeed the Son of Man goes as it has been decreed, but woe to that man by whom He is delivered up!” And they began to ask among themselves, which of them it could be who was about to do this.” ~Luke 22:7-16, 21-23 WOW! Did you see any differences in the 4 Accounts? Did you see any similarities in the 4 Accounts? Here’s What I saw: John’s account was BEFORE PASSOVER Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s account was on PASSOVER John’s account of יהושע’s encounter with Yahudah (Judas) is totally different than Matthew, Mark, and Luke. As mentioned earlier in John’s account: John reclining on the bosom of יהושע Kepha motions to John (the disciple whom יהושע loved) to ask who it was יהושע tells John, the one I give bread to after dipping it יהושע dips bread יהושע gave bread to Yahudah After the bread, Satan entered into Yahudah יהושע said “What you do, do quickly” Yahudah after receiving the bread, WENT OUT In Matthew and Mark ‘s account: “He who has dipped his hand with Me in the dish, he shall deliver Me up.” “It is one of the twelve, he who is dipping with Me in the dish. Yahudah asked “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.” Also in Matthew, Mark, And Luke’s account there is proclamation of Woe, which was absent from John’s account. Plus there is NO mention of Yahudah (Judas) going out (WENT OUT) after dinner. Why the differences? Well that’s simple… The Events in John & The Events in Matthew, Mark, and Luke… Are Two Different Events that Happened on Two Separate Days! Final Thoughts: We Can Link the Events of John 13:1-32 to the start of Day 13 / Month 1 for a number of reasons. I’ll cover 2 here: “And after the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. יהושע, therefore, said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” … “having received the piece of bread, he (Yahudah) then WENT OUT straightaway, and it was night. When, therefore, he WENT OUT, יהושע said, “Now the Son of Adam has been esteemed, and Elohim has been esteemed in Him. ~John 13:27, 30, 31 This phrase he “WENT OUT” or “WENT” is also mention in Matthew, Mark, and Luke PRIOR to THE PASSOVER! “Then one of the twelve, called Yahudah from Qerioth, WENT to the chief priests, and said, “What would you give me to deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. And from then on he was seeking an occasion to deliver Him up. And on the first day of Unleavened Bread the taught ones came to יהושע, saying to Him, “Where do You wish us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?” ~Matthew 26:14-17 “And Yahudah from Qerioth, one of the twelve, WENT to the chief prieststo deliver Him up to them. And when they heard it, they were glad, promised to give him silver. And he was seeking how to deliver Him up, conveniently. And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they were slaughtering the Passover lamb, His taught ones said to Him, “Where do You wish us to go and prepare, for You to eat the Passover?” ~Mark 14:10-12 HERE’S THE CLINCHER “And SATAN ENTERED into Yahudah, who was called man from Qerioth, who was numbered among the twelve. And he WENT and spoke with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver Him up to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him silver. And he promised, and was seeking an occasion to deliver Him up to them, away from the crowd. And the Day of Unleavened Bread came when the Passover had to be slaughtered. And He sent Kepha and Yohanan, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat.” ~Luke 22:3-8 In Matthew, Mark, and Luke Yahudah (Judas) WENT to the chief priests Prior to THE PASSOVER!!! …However did you catch it? (((SATAN ENTERED into Yahudah Prior to PASSOVER))) However, in John ‘s account it was After the meal when יהושע dipped the bread and handed it to Yahudah, after the piece of bread SATAN HAD ENTERED him, and he WENT OUT! John’s account Satan Entered into Yahudah AFTER the meal! Luke’s account Satan Entered into Yahudah BEFORE PASSOVER! It all makes perfect sense once you realize the Timing of Events! Satan Entered Yahudah AFTER the meal on Day 13 / Month 1 in 34 C.E. which was BEFORE PASSOVER on Day 14 / Month 1 in 34 C.E. For More Info Check out:
